Ferriday comes into the game behind a very potent offense, averaging
44 points per game throughout the playoffs. The Trojans are led by dual threat
quarterback Kobe Dillon, a senior that can hurt a defense with his arm as well
as his legs. On the other side of the ball the Many Tigers have a big time
playmaker at tailback in Terrance Williams. At 6’2 225 pounds the junior
running back is a load to bring down.
The game got underway with the Trojans trying a short high
kick off. The return would go nowhere the return man was tackled immediately.
Many would come out and put together a drive that would allow them to walk away
with a field goal.
The two teams battled back and forth the entire first
quarter, both deadlocked in a punting battle. Until, Ferriday quarterback Kobe
Dillon found receiver Elijah White in the back of the end zone on a 17 yard
touchdown toss to start the second quarter. The ensuing two point conversion
would be no good. Ferriday would go up 6-3.
Eventually that would cycle of punting would break. The
Trojans would get a sack on quarterback Ze’Quarrius Rhone, and force a fumble on
the junior. Three plays later, Dillion would call his own number and run it in
from 11 yards out. This time the two point attempt would be good.
Ferriday Head Coach Stanley Smith seemed to have dialed up
more blitzes in the second quarter, as the Trojans were getting back in the
backfield more often, and getting to Many quarterback Rhone. Making him feel
uncomfortable in the pocket.
The Trojans would score another two touchdowns before the
end of the half, driving the score on the Tigers 28-3. But on the kick off
before the end of the half, it looked as if a Trojan player had taken the ball
from the Tiger receiver on the return. The ball was fumbled and recovered by
Ferriday, or at least it looked that way. After an official review it was ruled
that the receiver had maintained control of the ball and there was no fumble on
the play. The Tigers would go into halftime down 28-3 with the Trojans
receiving the second half kick.
In the second half the Trojans seemed to slow down the game, and let the ground attack work for it. The Trojans would score again in the third quarter, this time Tevyn Byrd would get in for the score from two yards out. Many would try to rally but the rally would prove to be too little too late. The Trojans offense was too powerful and their defense too stifling.
Ferriday also set a Class 2A record tonight, averaging 11.4 yards per play. The previous record was 10.5 yards per play set in 1994 by Haynesville. Tonight the Trojans offense went 523 yards on 46 plays.
