Oscar Casco is a class of 2021 running back for the Kenner Discovery Swamp Owls in Kenner, Louisiana. The 5’8 190 pound athlete is a dynamic runner that packs a thunderous punch out of the backfield. Casco has the ability to run around a defender or through them. His leadership in the classroom has set the tone on the field as well. Oscar is currently carry a 3.0 GPA. According to his head coach he is “pound for pound one of the strongest kids in our weight room right now.” With a 330 pound squat and a 215 pound bench press the junior will be exciting to watch his senior season.
When did you start
playing football?
I started playing football around when I was like seven or
eight years old. But, I’ve been watching football all my life. Since I was a
little kid my mom would having me watching football. The Saints, basically the
NFL, she would have me watch the NFL, she would also have me watch LSU too.
What do you love
about football?
I just love the sport, I love the fight, and I love the
competition. I love everything about it. There is nothing I really hate about
it.
Did you play any
other sports growing up?
Oh yeah! I played baseball, I played soccer, and I played
basketball when I was younger. I played soccer last year and decided to play
just football this year. I started playing football first, football was the
sport I ever played, and it was basically my first love. Soccer, basketball,
and baseball kind of came the year after I started playing football. For
basketball I was playing center, and baseball I was playing catcher.
What style of play
best describes you?
I’m versatile, I can play however the coach needs to play. I
can be aggressive, I can be the person to punch through the line, I can be the
guy to bring it out. I am very versatile. If we are one yard out from a
touchdown I can do that, if I’m needed to bounce it outside, I can do that. If I’m
needed to go out for a pass, I can do that too.
This previous season,
what were your goals?
Our goals were like for any other team, win the
championship. But, since this was our first real season, we just wanted to get
to the playoffs. I think at one point we were top eight, in the whole 3A
division. That was our goal, to make the playoffs, we fell short. This upcoming
season our goal is to make the championship.
Who are some of your
biggest influences?
My mother, one she came to every single one of my games. She
pushed me to play, she asked me to play, and I was like why not. She kind of
helped me along with the game, how to play it, and ever since then I loved it.
Odell Beckham Jr. he has been one of my favorite players since LSU to New York,
to now. He shows me I need to work hard, to strive, to not give up.
Do you think attitude
is a factor in wining?
You have to be aggressive in the sport, if you’re not
aggressive, it’s not going to end well. It’s an aggressive sport. You have to
be aggressive.
What motivates you
the most?
To be honest my mom, all my life she has worked multiple
jobs for me to help my family. I just want her to be in a good life style. I
just want the best for her.
On a scale of 1-10 on
game day what would be your ideal performance number?
I would always strive for 10, at least try to be the best I
can. That’s kind of what I went out for that day.
At the end of this
coming year, what would you want your coaches or teammates to say about you?
That I never gave up, that I keep fighting, I keep pushing.
That I always help them better, get strong get faster. To pick their heads up,
I always pick their heads up, I always pick their heads up.
If you weren’t
playing football what sport do you think you would be playing?
I don’t think I would be playing a sport. Football is my
life. Football has been there since I could remember it. It has been there
since I was five or six years old.
Oscar was scheduled to take the ACT recently but due to the
recent coronavirus pandemic that has been rescheduled to a later date.
